When will Trump be coming?

President Donald Trump’s state visit is expected to take place any time between Monday 3 and Wednesday 5 June.

He will be accompanied by his wife and first lady, Melania Trump. The couple will be guests of the Queen during their three day visit.

What will the President do in the UK?

Mr Trump will certainly be attending a D-Day commemoration ceremony in Portsmouth on 5 June to mark 75 years since the historic day.

We know he will be meeting with Prime Minister Theresa May in No10, should he choose to follow tradition. It’s also expected he will visit and make a speech at the Houses of Parliament.

However, House of Commons speaker John Bercow has voiced his opinions about Mr Trump, saying he would be “strongly opposed” to accommodating him at the Commons.

It has been reported by American news channel CNN that he will be meeting with Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. The President will meet with the Prince of Wales for afternoon tea at Clarence House, their official state residence.

Charles and Mr Trump don’t see eye to eye on climate change, which the latter has called a “Chinese hoax.”

While details are yet to be confirmed, there are many aspects of a traditional state visit that we can expect to happen.

Usually the royal family greet the visitors with a ceremony on Horse Guard’s Parade in Westminster. There are also usually gun salutes fired from the Tower of London and Green Park.

Before the last presidential visit last year, over 1.8 million signed a petition to stop it from going ahead.

People were angry at his visit as it was reported police alone cost just under £8million for the day.
