Donald Trump could EMBARRASS the Queen at state banquet by praising BREXIT

Members of the Royal Family remain politically neutral, but ministers and courtiers fear the US President might use his address to praise the UK for its decision to unshackle itself from the bloc. A Whitehall source told the Daily Mail: “We’ve learnt that asking them to steer the President off a subject tends to have the opposite effect.”

But palace officials insisted the Queen can handle herself and will be “more than capable” of dealing with controversial conversations.

A source said: “We are not in the business of telling a foreign leader what they can and cannot say for political reasons.”

This is not the first time the US leader has meet the Queen – the pair enjoy enjoyed an afternoon of tea during his working trip to the UK last summer which sparked demonstrations across the country.

The fears come after the Republican leader urged the next Prime Minister should refuse to pay the £39billion Brexit divorce bill if Brussels does not make concessions.

During an interview in The Sunday Times, the US President claimed it was not too late for Britain to “sue” the EU and give the UK more “ammunition” in future Brexit talks. Trump, who announced his second term campaign this week, also said he wants to secure a free trade deal.

He also called on the Government to stop delaying Brexit and said Boris Johnson would make an “excellent” Prime Minister.

The President added Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage should join EU negotiations.

He said: “I like Nigel a lot. He has a lot to offer.

“He is a very smart person. They won’t bring him in.

“Think how well they would do if they did. They just haven’t figured that out yet.”

The US President will arrive in the UK tomorrow for his first official state visit as US President. Over three days, the American firebrand, his wife Melania and his children will be hosted by high-profile members of the Royal Family and politicians.

His busy schedule includes a state banquet, tea with Prince Charles and Camilla at Clarence House, talks with Prime Minister Theresa May and an event in Portsmouth to mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

He will also meet other senior royals including Prince William, the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.

Earlier The Times reported Mr Trump will not ride up The Mall to Buckingham Palace with Her Majesty as security officials have warned it would be a “nightmare” to police.
