Donald Trump challenges Meghan Markle to debate: 'Let's set it up'

Former President Donald Trump skipped the first 2024 Republican debate – but he would ‘love’ to face off with Meghan Markle.

‘I’d love to debate her,’ Trump said of the Duchess of Sussex. ‘I would love it.’

Talk of such an unusual contest emerged as Trump spoke to conservative radio talk show host Hugh Hewitt on Wednesday.

Hewitt brought up the upcoming 50th anniversary of the Battle of the Sexes tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs, which stands as the most-watched contest in the sport in TV history with about 90million views.

‘Well I don’t know that they don’t like me, I said that I don’t think they’re very appropriate, what they’re saying, what they’re doing,’ said Trump.

The ex-president said he ‘didn’t like the way’ that Meghan dealt with the late Queen Elizabeth II, who died on September 8 at the age of 96.

‘I became very friendly with the queen. She was an incredible woman. At 95, she was so sharp. She was 100%,’ Trump said.

Trump then went on a small tangent comparing the Queen to President Joe Biden, 80, whose ‘body is shot, and his mind is worse’.

‘When you watch Biden, you say this is a different planet. But they treated her with great disrespect and I didn’t like the idea that they were getting US security when they came over here,’ said Trump, referring back to the duke and duchess.

He added that ‘I think it’s not a good situation what’s going on with the two of them’.

Hewitt then asked Trump if a debate with them would get the ratings.

‘Oh, if you want to set it up, let’s set it up,’ Trump concluded. ‘Let’s go do something.’

Trump finished that train of thought with: ‘I disagree so much with what they’re doing.’

Last month, Trump opted not to participate in the first GOP debate in Milwaukee citing his huge lead in the polls. Instead, Trump had a one-on-one interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, which the ex-president claimed was more widely watched than the debate.

Trump called Meghan ‘disrespectful’ to the royal family in December 2021.

On Piers Morgan Uncensored, Trump opined that Meghan could leave Harry ‘when she decides that she likes some other guy better’.

‘I’m not a fan of Meghan, and I wasn’t from the beginning,’ Trump said at the time. ‘Poor Harry is being led around by his nose. And I think he’s an embarrassment,” he was quoted as saying.’

The duke and duchess stepped down from their royal working duties in 2020 and moved to Montecito, California. Meghan and Harry had a multi-million-dollar podcast deal, but Spotify ended it in June.
