Dominic Grieve ripped apart by Sky News host as Remoaner blamed for ‘dragging’ Brexit out
The Tory rebel hit back during the grilling and said Brexit won’t be over by the time the UK leaves the EU. Mr Grieve was adamant there will be “chaos and disruption” if Prime Minister Boris Johnson leaves on October 31. His comments come despite the Sky News host pointing out the public feel like it’s being dragged out.
Host Adam Boulton said: “There is a basic underlying problem, isn’t there? A lot of the public, whatever they voted in the referendum, feel this has dragged on for three years.
“People like you are dragging it out and they just want it over.”
Mr Grieve responded: “I know but the trouble is it’s not going to be over, is it?
“Just suppose for one moment that Boris Johnson pursues the policy that he’s got at the moment and we leave on October 31.
“On November 1 I happen to think there will be a lot of chaos and disruption but he will be saying, oh this is a bump in the road.
“But he knows that’s not true because the moment we leave the EU, every sinew of the Government machine is going to be dedicated to trying to do a deal, a trade deal with the EU from outside.
“It is going to take up every week, month, day of our working lives for probably the next five to ten years and we’re going to be negotiating such a deal from a position of maximum weakness and disadvantage.
“The idea the UK can survive in the longterm without a trade deal with the EU, which is our biggest trading block, is complete fantasy.
“He goes about talking about doing a trade deal with the US which we do about 18 percent of our trade.
“He knows a trade deal with the EU is the single most important thing for the British Government.”
His comments come as Mr Johnson has insisted he will call a general election by October 14 if no deal Brexit is blocked.
Polling expert Sir John Curtice believes the real battle in a general election would be between Mr Johnson and Brexit Party’s Nigel Farage.

But he believes the Conservatives can make gains from the Labour Party as they currently have an 8-point lead.
Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Mr Curtice said: “The real point about an early election is the dynamics will depend on a battle not so much between Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn but a battle between Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage.
“Boris Johnson will be going into an early election saying that he doesn’t want his hands tied by no deal being taken off the table but I want a deal.
“Nigel Farage, on the other hand, will be saying hang on, we should just leave without a deal.
“Therefore one can anticipate that the Brexit Party will stand and not necessarily back Boris Johnson’s position.”
