Dogwalker 'attacked by teenagers made it home before his mum found him dead'

A dogwalker allegedly murdered by three teenagers managed to make it home before being found dead by his mum, locals claim.

John Hackett was pronounced dead at an address off Victoria Road in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, on Wednesday morning.

Two boys and one girl, all 15 years old, were arrested on suspicion of murder as part of the investigation.

Detectives believe 36-year-old John’s death is linked to an ‘altercation’ which took place the night before at Snow Hill Recreation Ground.

The police identified the victim but neighbours have come out with other details, telling The Sun Online that his body was found by his mum.

One said: ‘She’ll be devastated without him and I don’t know how she’ll manage.

‘What’s happened is terrible and has really shaken up the community.’

John’s home, a house next to his and the park were all still cordoned off by police on Friday morning.

The teenagers who were arrested on Wednesday remain in police custody. A post mortem is due to take place soon.

The police have asked people to stop sharing any footage of the ‘altercation’ on social media.

Detective inspector Collette O’Keefe said: ‘We recognise this is a concerning incident – which we are treating as isolated – and would like to reassure the local community that a full investigation is underway.

‘Officers will remain in the area over the coming days as they carry out enquiries. If anyone has any concerns or information, please speak with them.

‘Our thoughts continue to be with John’s family and friends, and we would ask that their privacy is respected at this difficult time.’
