Nicola Grant, also known as Nikki O’Donoghue, previously pleading guilty to assaulting Emma Clay causing actual bodily harm. Mobile phone footage of the attack shows Ms Grant, 45, swinging a dog’s lead before striking Ms Clay in the face in a Liverpool park.

Ms Clay had been walking her seven pugs in Cricketers Park on Wednesday, August 11 when she encountered Ms Grant, of Prince Alfred Road in Wavertree, arguing with another man, the court heard.

Ms Clay said Ms Grant appeared to be remonstrating with the man about his dog allegedly growling at one of several she was walking, Liverpool Magistrates’ Court heard.

According to the Liverpool ECHO, when Ms Clay attempted to intervene in the dispute, she claims Ms Grant accused her of “siding” with the man.

As the encounter became heated, Ms Clay began recording with her mobile phone.

In the footage, Ms Grant can be seen attempting to remove the phone from Ms Clay’s hands.

As Ms Clay attempts to back away she then appears to be hit in the face by Ms Grant with a lead.

Ms Grant later left the scene.

Ms Clay had told the ECHO she feared “leaving her own home” as a result of the incident.

“It was horrible, it really was,” she said.

Ms Clay added: “I suffer with a lot of anxiety and it was so upsetting.

“I feel like I can’t go out of the house in case I bump into her.”

Ms Grant appeared at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for sentencing. 

She was handed 26-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.

Magistrates ordered her to pay £250 in compensation to Miss Clay.

The dog walker was also ordered to complete 20 Rehabilitation Activity days with the Probation Service and banned from contacting the victim under the terms of a two-year restraining order.
