Owen Jones has managed to find himself back in the media’s headlines. The left-wing commentator is set to publish a new book this September, taking it upon himself to explain the rise and fall of Jeremy Corbyn’s failed socialist movement. Mr Jones is perhaps best-known not for his work but the reaction which it provokes on social media.
His books focus on social issues in Britain, and he regularly writes opinion pieces on the state of society for The Guardian.
His writing in the publication, as well as a string of other outlets, was described by fellow journalist Brendan O’Neill as being a “mouthpiece of middle class moralism”.
The first in a string of books was his 2011 ‘Chavs: The demonisation of the working class’.
It became an instant bestseller.
It did, however, attract much criticism.
This mainly came in the form of critics arguing that yet another middle class, Oxbridge educated man was attempting to explain the struggles of everyday people without ever having experienced those struggles himself.
Mr Jones has several times attempted to acknowledge his privileged standing.
He has become famous in the volatile world of social media, often finding himself tangled in heated debates on politics.

In 2015, Mr Jones found himself humiliated by an unlikely figure.
It came after Hollywood giant Rob Lowe, mused on the Greek financial crisis.
He wrote: “One clue that the leader of Greece gives no f$$cks about his country defaulting: not wearing a tie as he addresses his government.”
Mr Jones pounced on the opportunity to take a swipe at the actor.

He replied: “Stick to the increasingly unwatchable films.”
Mr Lowe shot back: “I’ll try to do better than the multiple Emmys, Golden Globes and BAFTAs my last one won.
“Do your homework, pal.”
As the HuffPost reported at the time, Mr Jones’ reply was “somewhat meek”.
He wrote back: “Haha!”
Many Twitter users also replied to the thread of tweets.
One user sarcastically wrote: “The audacity of that toad Owen Jones slagging off big Rob Lowe.
“Rob should smash him with his St Elmo’s Fire sax,” accompanied by a throwback picture of Mr Lowe.
Another said: “Oh, Rob Lowe’s slap down of little Owen Jones has made my morning!”
