Meghan Markle: Arbiter discusses possibility of ‘Princess’ title

The Queen’s former press spokesman has highlighted on talkRadio that it would be a complicated matter to strip Prince Harry and Meghan Markle of their Sussex titles. Dickie Arbiter told Julia Hartley-Brewer that the matter was “a very difficult one, because Harry’s born Royal.” Mr Arbiter said: “He was born a Prince and you can’t take that away.

“The most you can do is take away the Sussex title, the Dukedom away but what do you end up with?

“His real title would be Prince Harry of Prince Henry of Wales and Meghan would be Princess Henry of Wales.”

He added: “

Prince Harry was stripped of his military titles following the couple’s decision to step back from their role as senior members of the Royal Family in January 2020.

These roles included Captain-General of the Royal Marines and Honorary Air Commandant of RAF Honington.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have retained their HRH styling but are not permitted to use them.

The Palace released a statement last January to announce that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would strive to become financially independent and would cease to represent the Queen.

Dubbed Megxit, the couple retained their private patronages such as the Invictus Games but relinquished all royal patronages. These included Commonwealth Youth Ambassador and the National Theatre for Meghan.

Since then, the couple has moved to California with their son Archie Harrison, who recently celebrated his second birthday.

Meghan Markle is due to give birth to the couple’s daughter later this summer.

These discussions come following the release of a trailer for Oprah Winfrey’s new Apple+ tv series ‘The Me You Can’t See’. Prince Harry is both a co-creator and executive producer for the series, which will discuss the impact of mental health.

Other celebrity guests to feature in the series include Lady Gaga and Glenn Close. This is the second time Prince Harry and Oprah have worked together following their interview in March, which criticised the British monarchy.

The interview claimed that an unnamed member of the Royal Family had commented on the colour of their son’s skin and that Meghan’s struggle with mental health was ignored.

Prince Harry also appeared on the podcast Armchair Expert last week, in which he compared life as a royal to being “a mix between the Truman show” and “being in a zoo”

He spoke about the “genetic pain and suffering” that had been passed down to him by his parents.

Both media appearances have fuelled discussion that the Duke and Duchess should be stripped of their titles.
