Speaking on forum website Quora, users were debating whether Charles and Diana would still be together had Camilla not come on the scene. And according to their deliberations, royal fans believe it wouldn’t have made any difference at all. One claimed the age difference between Charles and Diana would have been a key influencer on the relationship.

She said: “Charles was a little bit country; Diana was a little bit rock and roll.

“He was ready to sit back at his country home, pottering around in his experimental garden.

“Diana was young and wanted to get out and party.

“The last thing she wanted to do was sit home with that old fuddy-duddy.”

Another agreed, alleging that Camilla had always been in Charles’ heart.

She said: “Camilla was in the picture a decade before Charles’ marriage to Diana, 15 years throughout that marriage and 23 post-that marriage.

“For nearly 50 years, Charles’ heart has laid with Camilla.

“Diana was never to be anything more than a breeding mare for Charles.”

Diana and Charles began their romance in 1980.

Just one year later they were married in a spectacular royal wedding which captured the hearts of the nation.

But 15 years later they were divorced.
