Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been slammed by Nigel Farage and royal commentator Robert Jobson, for conducting their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey whilst Prince Philip was unwell in hospital. Mr Jobson accused the couple of “burning the British flag” by attacking the Royal Family, despite the Queen’s husband being “on his death bed”.
In a conversation on GB News, former UKIP leader Nigel Farage said: “What really upset me was when they gave that interview to Oprah, they knew that the Duke of Edinburgh was on his death bed. Yet they still went ahead.”
Royal commentator Robert Jobson said: “I was shocked by that actually.
“I thought it was deeply unpleasant actually the whole way it was handled.
“I said on air that I thought it was a bit like someone burning the American flag, what they were doing was burning the British flag.”
Prince Harry and Meghan’s explosive interview with US chat show host Oprah Winfrey aired on March 7, 2021 on CBS. It was later aired the following day in the UK by ITV.
During the 2-hour conversation, the couple detail their relationship with the Royal Family and their reasons for stepping away from the monarchy.
Accusations included Buckingham Palace ignoring Meghan’s mental health and refusing to correct damaging tabloid articles that were regularly circulated about the Duchess.
According to Meghan, this left her feeling suicidal whilst she was pregnant with the couple’s first child.
Prince Harry and Meghan claimed that they have been “financially cut off” and that the Royal Family had both denied their son a title and security.
The Duchess also revealed the true circumstances of her fallout with Kate, whilst Harry described his relationship with Prince William as “space” and said he felt “really let down” by his father, Prince Charles.
However, the most damaging allegation was that an unnamed senior member of the Royal Family had made a racist remark about the skin colour of their unborn child.
Following the airing of the interview, Buckingham Palace was plunged into a PR crisis and stated: “The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.”

Oprah Winfrey subsequently revealed that Prince Harry had revealed privately that neither the Queen nor Prince Philip had made the racist comment.
At the time of the interview being broadcasted, Prince Philip had been in hospital for several weeks. He was admitted on February 16 as a ‘precautionary measure’ after feeling unwell, and was not discharged until March 16.
During his time at hospital, he was treated for an infection and underwent a procedure for his heart condition.
He died on April 9 at Windsor Castle with the Queen at his bedside. By the time of his death, he was the longest-serving consort in British history and had been married to the Queen for over 73 years.
Prince Harry returned to attend his funeral on April 17 and walked alongside Prince William and Peter Phillips behind the hearse. Meghan Markle remained in California due to her pregnancy.
