Mr Batten was knocked from the position as the Lib Dem vote surged in London, where he stood. Appearing on BBC, Brexit campaigner Suzanne Evans said: “It is quite interesting the Brexit Party have repeated Ukip’s success from 2014. We have seen a clear switch from Ukip to The Brexit Party.

“I wonder if we are also seeing the death of two parties – the death of Change UK and the death of Brexit.”

Two UK regions have declared Ukip had 4.2 percent of the vote so far, down a massive 29 points since its result in 2014 as votes bled away to the Brexit Party.

The Lib Dems came first in the London boroughs with three MEPs, followed by Labour with two, polling the same as the Brexit Party with two and followed by the Green Party with one.
