David Beckham’s Prince Harry snub after former friends ‘severed ties’

Prince Harry and David Beckham once enjoyed a strong friendship, with the former England captain and his wife victoria invited to the Duke of Sussex’s wedding to Meghan Marke in May 2018.

And that same year Harry asked David to be an ambassador for the Sydney Invictus Game. The former Manchester United star readily accepted the offier.

Thinks now seem to be very different. David and Victoria’s friendship with the Sussexes is said to have cooled after their stepped down as major royals, reports The Mirror. The comments made about the Royal Family – on Netflix and to Oprah Winfrey – seem to have distanced the couples.

In May 2023, an insider said the friendship was dead when then Beckhams were accused of leaking stories about Harry and Meghan. The source told The Mail on Sunday that David was “absolutely bloody furious” after accusations supposedly flew during a tense phone call between the couples. “Any making up now is so unlikely,” the insider claimed.

It is also no secret that David is a support of the Royal Family. He famously queued up for more than 12 hours to see the Queen during her lying in state at Westminster Abbey.

Speaking about the occasion, he said: “Anytime throughout my career I’ve been asked to do anything regarding the Royal Family, Her Majesty, the princes, our King now, I have always been very willing to do that.

“I grew up in a family that were royalists. Today I think back to my grandparents because if my grandparents were alive they would have been here, so it’s nice to be here to celebrate with everybody the life of Her Majesty and her legacy that she leaves.”

Having distanced himself from Harry, David is now said to be throwing his support behind King Charges, and one of his other major passions. The former England star is said to have accepted an invitation to dine with Charles to talk about the possibility of him becoming an ambassador for The Prince’s Foundation, a charity founded by the King in order to help provide skills to young people.

Should he take the role, it will echo what he did previously for Harry’s Invictus Games.

Reports say David will meet King Charles at the Foundation’s base, Dumfries House, in east Ayrshire, Scotland. A source suggested that the meeting would be an opportunity for the King to ‘suss out’ the sportstar and find out in what areas they could work together.

Sources close to David say that he is hoping for an honour such as a knighthood, according to the Sun. He was awarded an OBE back in June 2003 for services to football.
