Danny Baker to face NO POLICE ACTION over ‘racist’ Meghan Markle baby tweet

The Radio 5 Live presenter, 61, will not be charged with any offence after a complaint was made to Scotland Yard over the tweet, which showed a black and white picture of a chimp dressed in clothes being led away by a man and woman in the days after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed Archie Harrison into the world. Veteran presenter Mr Baker captioned the post: “Royal baby leaves hospital.” The post caused outrage and resulted in the BBC sacking Mr Baker.

But today, a Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said the television and radio personality will not face any further action from the force.

She added: “Having reviewed the comments made, we do not consider that a criminal threshold has been met and as such we will be taking no further action.”

Mr Baker apologised and removed the tweet, which he posted to his 504,000 followers.

He said: “Sorry my gag pic of the little fella in the posh outfit has whipped some up.

“Never occurred to me because, well, mind not diseased.

“Soon as those good enough to point out it’s possible connotations got in touch, down it came. And that’s it.”

The tweet was posted hours after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, 37 and 34, showed off the tot to the world last week.

Mr Baker immediately received backlash for sharing the image, with a huge amount of social media users calling it “racist” due to Meghan’s mixed race heritage.

But despite attempting to explain his reasons for posting the snap, he was sacked by the BBC.

On the doorstep of his £2million home, he told The Sun it was “not the first time and possibly not the last time” he will be sacked for causing controversy.

He said: “You see these sorts of things happening to other people and you kill yourself laughing.”

Referring to the BBC, he added: “It’s a Twitter storm. The point is they have given credence to the vampires by claiming I meant it. It’s rotten.”

He then said he told the BBC to “f*** off”, before later issuing a grovelling apology.

Again taking to Twitter, he said: “Good morning, everyone. Following one of the worst days of my life I just want to formally apologise for the outrage I caused and explain how I got myself into this mess.

“I chose the wrong photo to illustrate a joke. Disastrously so.

“I would like once and for all to apologise to every single person who, quite naturally, took the awful connection at face value.”

He added: “I understand that and all of the clamour and opprobrium I have faced since. I am not feeling sorry for myself. I f***ed up. Badly.”

The BBC said in a statement the tweet “goes against the values we as a station aim to embody” and that Mr Baker had shown a “serious error of judgment”.

It added: “Danny’s a brilliant broadcaster but will no longer be presenting a weekly show with us.”
