‘Dangerously out-of-control dog’ leaves woman ‘seriously injured’
A man has been charged with assault after a terrifying dog attack which left a woman seriously injured
Liam Rainy, 25, of Battersby Street, Wigan was charged with Section 18 assault and being in possession of a dog dangerously out of control
He was remanded in custody ahead of an appearance at Manchester Magistrates Court today.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “The dog has since been safely detained and is being cared for by animal welfare professionals.
“This charge is a result of an investigation into an incident that took place on Windermere Road in Wigan on Sunday 11 June 2023 where the injuries sustained were believed to be serious.”
In an unrelated incideent, Jonathan Hogg, 37, died after a dog attack in Leigh, Wigan last month.
Mr Hogg was found by officers in Westleigh Lane with serious injuries just after 9.10pm on May 19.
He was taken to hospital but hours later.
A 24-year-old man was subsquently arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dangerously out-of-control dog causing injury resulting in death.
Det Supt Simon Hurst, of GMP’s Wigan district, said: “Firstly, I would like to extend my condolences to the loved ones of the victim of this attack.
“Our officers and our partners are currently supporting the victim’s loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.
“We recognise this incident will rightly cause concern within the local area and we would like to reassure the public that we explored every possible avenue to protect the local community and the animal involved.”
