Dad had crack up his bum for two days
A drug dealer has been jailed after he hastily stashed crack in his bum to evade police.
Marshall Reid was stopped by police on February 2, 2021 in Newbold, Chesterfield.
Officers suspected he had hidden illegal substances on his person, but Reid refused to co-operate with the search, Derby Crown Court heard.
When he was taken to hospital, he then stubbornly denied an x-ray.
But Reid’s plan was foiled after Derbyshire Police successfully applied for an extension to hold the 24-year old.
The dad-of-two ‘passed’ a package on day two in hospital which, the court was told, held was up to £1,270 of crack cocaine.
Sarah Allen, prosecuting, said: ‘A stop search was undertaken and he refused to co-operate with that examination. The police suspected he had a package secreted and so he was taken to hospital.
‘They asked for an x-ray to be taken and hew refused that and so they applied for a three-day lie-down and on day two of that the defendant passed the package.’
Recorder Penelope Stanistreet-Keen added: ‘Those packages could have burst inside you and you could have died, this was extremely risky.’
Officers had searched Reid’s home address, where they discovered £3,000 in cash.
Further investigations into his finances showed £118,000 has passed through his bank account in the previous 12 months.
Reid, of Barlow Road in Sheffield, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply a class A drug and has no previous convictions.
He was handed a 22-month jail sentence, suspended for 18 months, following the find.
Digby Johnson, mitigating, said some of the money discovered in his client’s bank account was from a loan his long-term partner, who sat in court at this week’s hearing.
Cash had been taken out and moved between different accounts, he added.
Mr Johnson said: ‘He is somebody who has not been in trouble, to all intents and purposes, before. He lost his employment, owed money, and decided to get involved in this sort of activity.
‘Once he was arrested he was in a very difficult position because he was then in even more debt because the drugs had been taken.
‘He is someone who left school and has worked as a gardener, a dog trainer and a delivery driver and he is going to be trained as an Amazon delivery driver. He has two children and he is desperate to prove himself and make a go of it.’
As part of the suspended sentence order Recorder Stanistreet-Keen ordered Marshall to carry out 250 hours unpaid work.
A Proceeds of Crime Act hearing will also take place in the new year.
