On June 6 each year, the Normandy landings of World War 2 are commemorated. D-Day 75 marks a particularly special celebration, with the Ministry of Defence working with veterans and families to mark the anniversary. Commemorations to remember those who fought during the D-Day operation will predominantly be focused around Portsmouth and Normandy, marking the locations where the troops embarked and landed.

Events commemorating the day will commence on June 2, with the flypast on June 4 and 5.

What is the Flypast schedule?

TUESDAY, JUNE 4

The official opening of the event will start at 10am at Duxford Airfield on Tuesday, June 4.

Take-off for the Dakota Formation Flight will is at 10.30am.

A number of aircraft will be visible to the public at the airfield with the Dakota Formation Demo first, followed by a parachute jump freefall team.

The parachute jump will involve 11 aircraft and roughly 220 paratroopers from around the world.

A Flight Demo C-53 LN-WND will also take place, before the Dakota Formation Flight land at 11.30am.

This routine will then be repeated at 2pm.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 5

On June 5, the planes will take off from Duxford airfield at approximately 1.40pm to 2.05pm and make their way over Essex, towards Eastbourne.

They are expected to fly over Colchester at around 2.21pm and should reach Southend by 2.29pm.

From Southend the planes will then fly past Maidstone in Kent at around 2.37pm, reaching Eastbourne at around 2.50pm.

The aircraft will then continue to Le Havre in France and then the historic UK Drop Zone at Sannerville.

The fleet will then descend on Caen-Carpiquet Airport around 4.45pm local time. (3.45pm GMT).
