Chris Megrath ordered a meal from a restaurant through Just Eat, but was disappointed when it reportedly arrived two hours late. After requesting a refund from Just Eat because of how “grim” the meal was, Mr Megrath was stunned to be left an aggressive message that was apparently from one of the venue’s staff members.
Sharing his story on Twitter, the Liverpool-based customer explained what happened and shared a screen recording of the voicemail he was left.
He said: “Processed a refund through @JustEatUK because the food was 2 hours late and grim and got this from the venue lmaoooo.”
In the clip, what appears to be a woman’s voice is heard saying: “I hope you know, your food won’t be free, you scruffy little c**t.
“I will be going through Just Eats for my money back and I hope you f***ing choke and die on it.”
Responding to the tweet, the official Just Eat account expressed their “concern” over the customer’s experience and promised to investigate what happened.
The tweets said: “Hi Chris, we’re deeply concerned to see this. While the restaurants on our platform are independent from the Just Eat business, we hold ourselves to high standards and in line with these, we expect all our restaurant partners to act responsibly and respectfully at all times.
“We take these matters extremely seriously and would like to investigate this, please send over a DM with your order details and we’ll go from there.”
Mr Megrath’s tweet quickly went viral, with hundreds of people sharing their thoughts on his refund ordeal.
One said: “This has made me think twice about telling Just Eat 20 whole nuggets haven’t turned up out of pettiness when they don’t bring sauce.”
A second added: “What are they going to do send the chef round?”
Another said: “Sounds like a threat considering they know your phone number and address, that’s hugely serious @JustEatUK.”
