Ten residents of a care home in Scotland have died after contracting COVID-19.

A total of 25 residents of Mossview Care Home in Lochgelly tested positive for coronavirus, as well as 43 members of staff, NHS Fife said.

The first case “associated with the cluster” was confirmed on 20 December, it added.

The local health protection team has been supporting the management of the home, and offering advice on stopping the spread of COVID-19.

Fife Council’s environmental health service has also been involved.

For a time, the home closed to new admissions but has now reopened, because it is 14 days since the last positive test.

NHS Fife said its thoughts were with the loved ones of those who had died.

According to the latest daily figures, a further 48 people have died with coronavirus in Scotland, bringing the total to 6,431.

Another 895 positive tests have been recorded, amounting to 5.9% of all those who were swabbed.

A total of 1,729 people are in hospital with recently confirmed COVID-19 – a decrease of 65 from the previous total.

The number of intensive care patients has fallen by six in the last 24 hours, to 117.

Regarding vaccines, 786,427 people have received their first dose, with 10,332 having had both doses.
