Members of a gang who forced their way into a house and held a knife to a baby’s throat have been jailed for a total of 43 years.

Cousins Joshua Juggan and Malik Ragnatt, alongside Daniel McKain and Gregory Crockett, tied two women to chairs and raided the property in the Stoke area of Coventry on 18 June 2018.

One of the gang members held a craft knife to the 10-month-old baby’s throat once they discovered there was a safe in the kitchen containing cash.

After they tore out the safe and took jewellery from the house, the gang fled in a car.

They later pulled off at a motorway slip road to prise the safe door open with a crowbar and divide up the money.

A sharp-eyed member of the public made a note of the car’s number plate, and two of the men were subsequently intercepted by police on the M40 motorway near Junction 10.

Juggan, 24, of Alvey Street, Southwark, southeast London, and 21-year-old Ragnatt, of Bensham Lane, Croydon, south London, were arrested in the vehicle.

During a search of the Ford Focus, police found £1,400 in £20 notes, as well as balaclavas and duct tape.

Messages on the men’s phones linked them to co-conspirators 29-year-old Daniel McKain, of Clarewood Walk, Lambeth, south London, and Gregory Crockett, 24, of Friary Road, Handsworth Wood, Birmingham, who were arrested later.

All four of the men admitted robbery, with Crockett also pleading guilty to handling stolen goods.

They all denied threatening the baby.

On 12 July at Warwick Crown Court, Crockett was sentenced to 12 years in prison, McKain was handed 11 years and Juggan received a 10-year sentence.

On 23 July, Ragnatt was sentenced to 10 years behind bars.

Speaking afterwards, investigating officer Detective Constable Tom Simpson said: “This was a truly sickening case – it’s hard to imagine that anyone could stoop so low as to threaten to injure a baby.

“There was another young child in the address at the time but thankfully no one was hurt and the offenders left with a quantity of cash and jewellery.”

He added: “I’m pleased the court has handed down lengthy prison terms for what was a shocking robbery conspiracy.”
