Couple raging after romantic weekend in 'executive' hotel room 'ruined by mould'
What was supposed to be a romantic weekend in Liverpool was soon spoiled when a couple discovered their hotel room covered in mould.
David Goodall, 41, had organised a weekend break at The Adelphi Hotel with his 29-year-old girlfriend, Maud.
He had paid for an ‘executive room with jacuzzi bath’ for £124 a night, as well as an evening meal and breakfast.
Having spent four months apart, the couple were excited to spend time together, but were ‘disgusted at the state’ of the hotel when they arrived.
Far from the ‘executive’ accommodation advertised online, David and Maud discovered the room covered in ‘cobwebs and mould’, with stains on the carpets and walls.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, David said that he went straight to reception to complain about the room: ‘I waited until no one was around and spoke quietly to the nice lady behind the reception desk to inform her of what we had just found in our room.
‘She apologised and gave me keys to look at a different room. We visited a smaller room in a similar state of disrepair, so went back down to reception, got given yet another set of keys and found another smaller room, even filthier than the first.’
David then asked to see the duty manager to ask for a refund, but claims he was refused and offered a 10% discount off his room rate instead.
‘My partner arrived about five minutes later after getting lost and stumbling into the kitchen. She laughingly told me there was no way she was eating in the hotel after passing through the area.’
The couple decided to go back to the first filthy room they were offered, because they could not check out as David’s car was locked in a nearby car park overnight.
Having eaten dinner elsewhere, the couple returned to the hotel, only to find a ‘drunk blonde woman’ swearing and screaming at a security guard.
Unable to leave their underwhelming mini-break, the couple went to sleep ‘fully clothed’.
According to David, they were then woken up at 7am the following morning to the sound of ‘staff, laughing, shouting, swearing and breaking bottles in the recycling bins’ directly below their bedroom window.
He said: ‘I’d planned this weekend for the whole month and how it was going to be perfect, and it ended up being far from that.’
