Council threatens Adele for littering saying they'll 'keep chasing payments'

Doncaster Council is pursuing the multi-millionaire pop star Adele for a littering fine, warning that it will keep ‘chasing payment’.

The singer stands accused of dropping rubbish in the area, sparking a string of tongue-in-cheek tweets from the council, which already has a reputation for entertaining social media use.

Adele has been told over Twitter that she is being hit with a fine – after appearing to litter in her new music video.

But Doncaster Council’s geographical knowledge is now in question, after being rubbished by fans.

The superstar Hello singer – worth £140million – could be forced to pay up to £2,500.

Doncaster Council called her out for letting hundreds of sheets of music fly out of the open window of her car in the new video for Go Easy on Me.

It tweeted: ‘Unfortunately, as Adele’s video was clearly filmed within the confines of Doncaster Metropolitan Borough, she will be issued with a fixed penalty notice for littering immediately.

Her new album, 30, focusses on the divorce from her ex-husband Simon Konecki.

In the UK, littering from a vehicle is an offence under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, with a £150 fine reduced to £100 if it is paid within 28 days.

But a maximum fine of £2,500 can be issued for the offence.

This is far from the first time that Doncaster Council’s social media use has attracted widespread attention.

The local authority’s tweets shot to prominence following a thread about what a rotting whale carcass could teach the world about coronavirus.

The account also won plaudits for a ‘Gritting World Cup’ competition which saw its two gritters renamed Gritsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Anti-Slip Machiney and David Plowie.

Metro.co.uk has contacted a representative for Adele for comment.
