Coronavirus: Police seek man after hand sanitiser stolen from hospital

Police want to speak to this man after hand sanitiser was stolen from the wall of a hospital.

The video, filmed on CCTV in Northampton General Hospital’s Quinton Ward, shows the man initially walk past the wall-mounted hand sanitiser.

He then turns back and stands in front of the hand sanitiser with his back to the camera for a few moments.

When he walks away, the hand sanitiser is gone.

The hospital posted the footage on Twitter, along with an appeal: “Please don’t steal from us.”

Northamptonshire Police said the theft was on Monday 9 March at around 7.45pm when “a man pulled the sanitiser unit off the wall and made off”.

The wall was also damaged as a result, they added.

“Officers investigating the incident believe the man in the image may have information that could help their enquiries and are encouraging him or anyone who recognises him to call Northamptonshire Police on 101.”

Earlier this month, hand sanitisers were among the items snapped up by people as the seriousness of the coronavirus pandemic became clear.

Many supermarket and pharmacy shelves had none available for a number of days.
