Coronavirus news live – UK death toll reaches 33,614 and lockdown latest

Another 428 people died after contracting coronavirus in the UK yesterday, bringing the country’s death toll to 33,614.

It came as the Scottish government confirmed that more than 2,000 people had died in Scotland after testing positive for coronavirus.

Meanwhile, shocking data from The Office for National Statistics (ONS) published Thursday revealed almost 150,000 people in England had coronavirus in the space of just two weeks.

The ONS found an average of 148,000 people – equivalent to 0.27% of the population – had coronavirus between April 27 and May 10.
