Coronavirus: Britain’s THIRD case of deadly virus reported in West Midlands

Britain’s third victim was believed to be a Chinese soldier from Shanghai, who is reportedly being cared for at the Manor Hospital, Walsall in the West Midlands.  It is thought he arrived at the hospital either on Friday night or in the early hours of Saturday, a source told the Daily Mail.  But the Department for Health has said the claims were untrue.

The patient is being held in an isolated room in the intensive care department, it is claimed.

The man would have been the third person in the UK to test positive for coronavirus after two people from York were tested positive for the deadly virus on Friday.

A male student from the University of York and his mother, both Chinese, were taken ill at a budget hotel in the city centre on Wednesday night.

They are now being care for in a special NHS isolation unit in Newcastle.

The news that one of the cases was a student at the Russell Group university sparked panic on campus as students feared they could catch the deadly virus that originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan.

The university has emailed students informing students the risk of infection was low.

Vice-chancellor Professor Charlie Jeffery said: “I want to reiterate to students, staff, parents and visitors that we’re working with our partners across the city to ensure that York and the university remain a safe and welcoming place to live, work and visit.”

Public Health England (PHE) said it was making “good progress” in tracing people who have come into close contact with the two Chinese nationals.

On Friday British nationals were flown back from Wuham and taken to a hospital in Wirral where they will spend the next 14 days in quarantine.

A convoy of coahces arrived at Arrowe Park Hospital shortly after 7.15pm and 83 Britons were taken from RAF Brize Norton.

The British passengers are being housed in an NHS staff accommodation block at the Merseyside hospital, where they will be put in “supported isolation” for 14 days with “all necessary medical attention”.
