Corbyn takes brutal swipe at Rees-Mogg in furious anti-Brexit rant – ‘Fast asleep again!’
While speaking at the Trade Union Conference (TUC) Jeremy Corbyn decided to take aim at Jacob Rees-Mogg for his body language in Parliament last week. Jacob Rees-Mogg was attacked for lounging during a House of Commons debate on the front benches. During his speech, Jeremy Corbyn alluded to this moment while explaining he attempted to call the European Research Group leader to confirm a statistic.
Mr Corbyn said: “For 40 years the share of the cake going to workers has been getting smaller and smaller.
“Take these figures: in 1976 wages took over 64 percent of the GDP.
‘That figure is now only 54 percent.
“It is no coincidence that the same period has seen a sustained attack on the organisations that represent workers, trade unions we are here today.
“We have witnessed a deliberate decade long transfer of power away from working people.
“The consequences are stark for all workers, whether they are members of a trade union or not, pay is lower than it was a decade ago in real terms.
“I am told that the last decade has seen the biggest squeeze on wages since the Napoleonic wars.
“Personally, I can’t remember that far back so I tried to contact Jacob Rees-Mogg this morning.

“To check because he knows these things but he was fast asleep again on the government benches as he always is.”
“Things just can’t go on as they are, change is coming.”
The incident last week saw Green Party leader Caroline Lucas accuse the Leader of the House of showing contempt as his body language suggested he was “bored by the anti-no deal Brexit debate.
Ms Lucas said: “There’s been a lot of talk about democracy tonight. And the Leader of the House, who I have to say with his body language throughout this evening has been so contemptuous of this House and the people.
“And for the benefit of hindsight, the Leader of the House has been spreading across around three seats lying out as if that was something very boring for him to listen to tonight.”
But as Remainers on the opposition benches could be heard shouting “sit up” at the prominent Brexiteer, Mr Rees-Mogg merely fixed his spectacles and continued unbothered to sit as he was.
Ms Lucas continued: “He’s been lecturing us about democracy, we will have none of it.
“Because this Government has no mandate for the vicious form of Brexit it is pursuing. It was never on the ballot paper.”
