Last week, Labour moderates dealt the hard-left another crushing blow, as they installed David Evans as general secretary. Mr Evans worked for the party under Tony Blair and saw off stiff competition from Andrew Fisher, one of Mr Corbyn’s former advisers. Sir Keir Starmer hailed his new right-hand man.
The Labour leader said Mr Evans has a “clear understanding of the scale of the task ahead of us”.
Mr Evans said: “It is an honour and a privilege to be appointed General Secretary of the Labour Party.
“We face a defining period in the history of our great party, with a global pandemic, an imminent recession and a mountain to climb to win the next election.
“Through the strength of our movement, I know we can rise to this challenge.”
The appointment came after an already wide-ranging Shadow Cabinet reshuffle. which saw a string of Corbynite frontbenchers including John McDonnell, Diane Abbott and Richard Burgon replaced with figures from the party’s soft-left.
As many wonder whether Sir Keir will be able to restore the party’s electability, economics teacher David Palmer, who was involved in far left politics and worked with Mr Corbyn in the Eighties and early Nineties, shed some light on Mr Corbyn’s time as leader.
Mr Palmer, who was a member of IMG/Socialist Action and used to be very active in Labour Briefing, argued that Mr Corbyn’s leadership was very similar to the one of former London Mayor Ken Livingstone, as they both surrounded themselves by individuals from the far-left.
He said: “When Livingstone was Mayor, all his leading advisers were from the far-left.

“They all came from the International Marxist Group (IMG).
“He gave them positions in the Greater London Authority (GLA) and they took over from him.
“If you think about Corbyn leadership in the Labour Party, Livingstone is a precursor to that, a smaller version of the same thing.”
Mr Corbyn and Mr Livingstone have been friends for decades.

Despite the former Labour leader overseeing the party’s worst performance in recent history, in December, Mr Livingstone sensationally claimed Mr Corbyn had made no mistakes in the general election.
He instead claimed that Labour’s dreadful results in the election were down to Mr Corbyn being the subject of a “vile smear campaign” over the party’s anti-semitism crisis.
He told Sky News: “The simple fact is if you are a genuine socialist you get all this abuse.
“He ran the best campaign he could but he had a completely hostile environment.”
