Cleaner's brutally honest note for 'cruel' boss on her last day before retiring
A cleaner who was fed up with her ‘aggressive and cruel’ boss finally revealed her true thoughts in a brutally honest note upon retirement.
The employee, who has chosen to remain anonymous, decided to speak up on her last day at HSBC after spending 35 years cleaning different banks.
She encouraged the boss and others to ‘be kind’ and treat people with more respect in the future, regardless of their position.
The note read: ‘Hi ladies, tomorrow will be my last clean for HSBC.
‘I have made up a bucket of cleaning materials for the next cleaner whoever that may be!!
‘I’ve left the job [manager’s name] after the way you dressed me down in the office. It was nothing more than aggressive and cruel but that’s a reflection on your character, not mine.
‘So going forward, please all of you remember: in a world when you can be anything, BE KIND.
‘Because you are all no better than the cleaner.’
The note came to attention after her son posted a picture of it on social media.
The caption posted alongside the note read: ‘And this is why I love my mum. She’s been cleaning banks for 35 years and today walked out with this lovely note left behind for that awful manager.
‘Happy retirement mum – always have the last laugh eh!’
A number of people commented on the note, praising the employee.
One person said: ‘Never understood why people think what they do for a living reflects their importance.
‘I was raised to believe that a job is a job and anyone getting up and going to work deserves the same respect, whether they pick up trash or run the company. Good for your mom! Respect!’
Another wrote: ‘Well done her! My dad was a caretaker of a school for 30 years, so many rude staff.
‘When I started teaching I swore I would always be friendly to all staff contributing to the school.’
A third commented: ‘When interviewing people for jobs, I always asked the reception staff how they were treated by the candidate. A few failed the “attitude test”.’
HSBC bank has been contacted for comment.
