Chuka Umunna and Lib Dems savaged for ‘treating Brits as thick when they aren’t!’
The Liberal Democrats have come under fire for reinterpreting and subsequently misrepresenting early polling information for the Hastings and Rye constituency. Journalist Joey D’Ursu reflected on the controversies that have surrounded Jo Swinson’ s Liberal Democrat party regarding polling data. He explained that the reproduction of polling information for the North Tyneside constituency in the European elections conveniently removed the data for the Labour and Brexit Party to give the impression the Liberal Democrats were ahead.
Mr Umunna responded to these criticisms by saying: “I am a bit of a veteran in these bar chart wars both on the Labour side and the Liberal Democrats.
“I haven’t seen either the details of those charts.
“I think the most important thing is the point is you properly source the information in the appropriate manner.”
The panel guests then began laughing at Mr Umunna as he failed to admit that the bar graphs shown were incorrect or misleading.

Mr Halligan interjected that Mr Umunna would “do himself such a favour if he simply admitted that the bar graph were wrong”
The BBC Politics Live host Jo Coburn insisted that the bar graphs were purposefully misleading.
Mr Umunna emphasised that he had not seen the bar graphs before but added it was important to always source the correct information and provide context for bar graphs when used by a political party.
The BBC host continued: “The problem generally is that Partys do have to be straight with voters.
“This sort of thing is regarded rather dimly I should think.”
Mr Halligan replied: “I think even Lib-Dem supporters in other constituencies will be reeling from that.
“Just say it is wrong, it is obviously somebody at the local level who thought they were being a bit clever while putting a leaflet together at 3 am.
“These things get found out and the worst thing about it is it treats the electorate with contempt.

“We constantly have the political and media classes thinking ordinary people are thick and they are really not you know.”
Jo Swinson has faced criticism from Remainers from insisting she would not form a coalition with the Jeremy Corbyn and would instead be going for the job of Prime Minister in the election.
Many have considered this a highly unlikely scenario because despite the surge in popularity the Liberal Democrats have had there is not enough evidence to suggest they would win enough seats for Mrs Swinson become Prime Minister.
