China and the UK have been embroiled in a bitter clash after Boris Johnson echoed US criticism towards the recent behaviour of Beijing in regards to Hong Kong and the coronavirus pandemic.

In a press conference on Thursday, Chinese Ambassador to the UK Liu Xiaoming warned the UK could suffer severe consequences should the British Government be unable to resist coercion from a “certain country” – a subtle reference to the US.

Ambassador Liu insisted London and Beijing are now “standing at a critical, historical juncture”.
