The victims, who are aged 19 and 25, were battered unconscious and rushed to hospital yesterday at around 5.20am. The 25-year-old was stamped on with such force he needed full facial reconstruction surgery and remains in a serious condition in hospital.

The men reportedly stepped in to help two girls in distress in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, and prevented a sexual attack.

Now, Staffordshire Police has taken the significant step to release CCTV of two men they want help to identify and talk to.

A spokesman for the force told Stoke-on-Trent Live: “Officers have reviewed CCTV footage of the area at the time and are appealing for anyone who recognises the men to get in touch.

“The men are described as black. One was wearing a white, short-sleeved t-shirt and black waistcoat with blue jeans, and the other was wearing dark clothing.”

The 19-year-old victim has since been discharged from the Royal Stoke Hospital.

The nature of his injuries has not been disclosed at this stage but Express.co.uk readers have called on those responsible to be subjected to the death penalty.

“Maybe we should bring back the death penalty as the crimes are getting so much worse and the criminal gets away with it,” one woman wrote on Facebook.

“We need the death penalty bringing back (sic) in Britain,” another comment says.
