Child rushed to hospital after being 'injured by firework'
A 12-year-old boy has been rushed to hospital after being injured by a firework in Liverpool.
Emergency services were called to a garden in Pennard Avenue, Huyton, at 2.45pm today.
The boy, who had injuries to both his head and body, was taken to hospital.
Paramedics also treated a person who had fainted following the incident.
Merseyside Police said in a statement: ‘We can confirm we received a report that a child had been injured as a result of a firework being set alight in Huyton today, Sunday 25 September.
‘At around 2.45pm it was reported that a 12-year-old boy was injured in the head and body from a firework in the garden of a property on Pennard Avenue.
‘Ambulance attended and has taken the child to hospital for treatment.’
Officers from Merseyside Police and Merseyside Fire and Rescue are currently investigating the circumstances into the incident.
Chief Inspector Gary O’Rourke said: ‘Enquiries are in the very early stages to establish the circumstances into how the 12-year-old boy was injured by a firework.
‘A full enquiry by Merseyside Police and MFRS is taking place to establish the facts.’
