Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have split opinion with their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, which aired earlier this month. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made several extraordinary claims, including that there were “concerns and conversations” about the potential colour of their baby’s skin when Meghan was pregnant with Archie. The Duchess also opened up about her mental health issues and claimed the institution did not support her enough.
While many sympathise with the couple and the ordeal they’ve been through, some have questioned why they are airing the Royal Family’s dirty laundry if they are as concerned with privacy as they have previously claimed.
While it is unknown what Zimbabwean-born businesswoman Chelsy thinks of everything, she has remained good friends with Harry since their break-up and likely wants to support him.
That said, one of the reasons for their split was that Chelsy did not think royal life was for her ‒ and now he has left that life behind him.
According to reports from the time, Harry’s demand that Chelsy should withdraw from a charity ball is what “precipitated their break-up”.
The ball was to raise money for underprivileged children in Africa and Harry’s insistence that she pull out was the last straw for her.
Chelsy was said to be “exasperated” at having to send her last-minute regrets to the organisers of the Pearl Ball at Westbury hotel in London, which raised money for the Ndoro Children’s Charities.
Yet, Harry is said to have insisted because he found himself with an unexpected “window” in his diary.
A source told The Telegraph: “It was a cause close to Chelsy’s heart and she knew some of the organisers personally.
“Harry had just finished his helicopter training course and was adamant that she should make time for him.”
The organisers of the ball in April 2010 originally cited illness as the reason Chelsy had to withdraw.
However, Ronald Ndoro, the charity’s operations manager, later said: “She dropped me a note saying she was sorry, but she had to go away. It was a surprise.”
The ball took place only weeks before the last occasion when Chelsy was seen in public with Harry, when she watched him pick up his helicopter pilot’s wings on May 7.

Harry’s commitment to the Army and Chelsy to her legal practice course at the London College of Law had already forced them to spend a considerable amount of time apart.
After a seven-year on-again-off-again relationship, Harry and Chelsy finally parted ways later in 2010.
By the time of Kate Middleton and Prince William’s wedding in 2011, which Chelsy attended despite the break-up, Harry was describing himself as “100 percent single”.
He dated actress and model Cressida Bonas for two years between 2012 and 2014 and remained dedicated to his job in the Army until 2015, including going on two tours in Afghanistan.

He then met Meghan Markle in 2016 and their whirlwind romance led to them getting engaged in late 2017, marrying in 2018, having their son Archie in 2019 and stepping down as senior royals in 2020.
Meanwhile, Chelsy started working as a trainee solicitor at the London law firm Allen & Overy in 2011.
She worked there for three years before leaving to study at the Gemological Institute of American.
She then launched her jewellery brand Aya in 2016.
In 2020, she announced that Aya would be branching out into the luxury travel sector to organise African holidays.
