ChatGPT down for users in sudden global outage

Hundreds of people reported being unable to use ChatGPT, Open AI’s popular AI chatbot on Monday.

More than 900 users reported issues with the platform as of 9 am, according to outage monitoring website Downdetector.com.

Downdetector tracks outages by collating status reports from a series of sources, including user-submitted errors on its platform.

The status page on OpenAI’s website said that the company was ‘currently investigating this issue’ at 9.18 am.

The outage appeared to be a brief one, as the chatbot looks like it’s back up and running.

When asked about the outage, the chatbot responded saying, ‘As you are able to see this response, ChatGPT is not currently down’.

‘ChatGPT is a language model that can occasionally experience technical issues or downtime due to maintenance or other reasons,’ explained the chatbot.

It went on to say that any issues were likely to be temporary and if it persisted, to ‘please report it to the appropriate support team’.

Around 10 am, OpenAI updated the status page on its website to say that the incident had been resolved.
