King Charles was met on the platform by the custodian of Flying Scotsman, Lord Hendy of Richmond Hill and Judith McNicol, Director of the National Railway Museum – the home to the Flying Scotsman.
The King will be viewing the footplate of the Flying Scotsman as well as have an opportunity to meet staff and volunteers who have all taken part in helping the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and Flying Scotsman reach the milestone occasion.
Once into the ticket hall, Chris Price – who is the Chief Executive of the Railway – will say a few words with the King present.
Charles will then unveil a plaque commemorating the special anniversary of 50 years.
During the day, the King will also have the opportunity to visit some local shops which sell products from the Duchy of Lancaster.
A shop that the King will visit is Birdgate Chocolatiers – a homemade chocolatier and ice-cream shop located in the town’s Market Place.
