King Charles III phoned both his sons Prince Harry and Prince William to urge them to travel to Balmoral as Her Majesty was dying, it has been claimed. A source dismissed claims the new monarch treated his children differently on September 8, the day Queen Elizabeth II passed away.

Denying William had been called “some time” before Harry, the source told the Telegraph: “There was no difference in those calls. This is a father and his much-loved sons.”

Following the call, Prince William travelled north of the border on a Royal Air Force jet alongside other six members of the Royal Family, including Prince Edward and Prince Andrew.

After the plane landed at Aberdeen Airport at 3.50pm, the Prince of Wales was spotted driving his relatives in a Range Rover directed to Balmoral Castle.

Kate, the Princess of Wales, had remained in London to pick up Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis at the end of their first full day of school at Lambrook.

The Duke of Sussex, on the other hand, arrived at Aberdeen Airport on a different flight and without Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex.

His chartered flight touched down at 6.35pm, five minutes after Buckingham Palace had shared the news of the Queen’s death.

He eventually arrived at Balmoral Castle around 8pm.

Some 12 hours later, Harry was pictured leaving the Scottish royal estate and heading to the airport, likely to join once again Meghan in Windsor. 

The relationship between Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and some members of the Firm is known to have been strained.

The Duke himself spoke about his bond with Prince William and then Prince Charles during the Sussexes’ bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in early 2021.

Asked about his relationship with Charles, Harry told Ms Winfrey last year: “I feel really let down, because he’s been through something similar.

“He knows what pain feels like, and Archie’s his grandson.

“But, at the same time, you know, I, of course I will always love him, but there’s a lot of hurt that’s happened.

“And I will continue to make it one of my priorities to try and heal that relationship.”

Speaking of William, the Duke said last year he would always love his brother while acknowledging they were on different paths.

Interviewed by Hoda Kotb in April during the Invictus Games, Harry didn’t suggest his relationship with Charles and William had improved over the months, as he failed to respond to the question whether he missed, following his move to the US, his brother and father.

King Charles extended an olive branch to his younger son and daughter-in-law during his first speech as sovereign.

After announcing he has created Prince William Prince of Wales, he said on September 9: “I want also to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas.”

Another move seen by some royal watchers as a concession to the Duke of Sussex by the new King came on September 17.

As all the Queen’s grandchildren gathered to hold a 15-minute vigil at Westminster Hall, Prince Harry was allowed to wear his military uniform in public for the first time since he officially stepped down as a working royal.

However, the Duke’s uniform did not display the Queen’s “ER” cypher.

This move reportedly left Prince Harry “heartbroken” and had him consider wearing a morning suit to avoid the embarrassment of being stripped of the cypher.

The time of mourning shared by Charles, William and Harry sparked hopes of reconciliation between the royals.

Meghan and Prince Harry, who had arrived in the UK on September 3 to carry out a few visits linked to organisations close to their hearts, returned to California after the funeral to be reunited with their children Archie Harrison and Lilibet Diana.
