Charles gives Anne important role at the coronation for her 'unwavering devotion

Princess Anne will have a crucial role during the Coronation of King Charles, as thanks for her ‘unwavering devotion.

The 72-year-old will be Gold-Stick-in-Waiting during the procession on May 6.

Historically, the role has been handed to a person entrusted with the safety of a monarch.

Princess Anne will likely travel on horseback behind King Charles and Queen Camilla, as the group leaves Westminster Abbey.

The royal will keep a watchful eye over her brother and his wife, who will travel in the Gold State Coach to Buckingham Palace, along with police and security staff stationed along the route.

An insider told The Mirror: ‘The direction of the King’s decision is clear for all to see.

‘He is rewarding the Princess Royal for her loyalty and her unwavering devotion to duty above all else.

‘The King values his sister as a trusted lieutenant and this is the perfect example of such a relationship.’

More than 2,000 guests have been invited to the historic Coronation of King Charles III.

Prince Harry will be there, though Meghan Markle will be staying behind in California with their children Lilibet and Archie, the latter of which will be celebrating his fourth birthday.

Prince William and Catherine, The Princess of Wales will both be in attendance at the coronation.

Their eldest son, nine-year-old Prince George, will be a Page of Honour for The King during the ceremony.

Princess Charlotte will turn eight just days before the coronation on May 2, and is expected to be in attendance, as is her younger brother Prince Louis, who will have recently turned five.
