Charles gets anxious in public if he can’t see Camilla and does telling gesture
King Charles and Queen Camilla arrive in Poundbury
King Charles is “more confident” but still shows signs that he gets “stressed” when Queen Camilla is not in his line of sight, a body language and behavioural expert has claimed.
Darren Stanton, a former policeman who was been branded the human lie detector, has provided analysis on popular shows from This Morning to Judge Rinder.
Over the years, he has analysed how each member of the Royal Family has developed and has now shared insight into the Monarch’s telling mannerisms such as fiddling with his cufflinks or “scratching” his nose.
Mr Stanton, speaking on behalf of Betfair Casino, has noticed that Charles has grown in confidence, particularly since becoming King.
But there are “key indicators” that reveal when Charles is feeling nervous, particularly when he cannot see his wife of 18 years.

Mr Stanton said Charles has become more confident over the years so the “pacifying gestures”, done when one is trying to “self-reassure”, are seen less frequently.
These gestures include “brushing imaginary dust on his jacket” when feeling “nervous” and “uneasy” or scratching his nose, which he tends to do when he wants the conversation to move on, Mr Stanton explained.
These often come out when Camilla is not visible as she provides Charles with “a lot of strength”.
He said: “King Charles’s key gestures are firstly to do with when he’s not feeling confident, when he’s a little unsure of himself or when he’s looking for Camilla.”

He said: “He tends to get a little stressed when Camilla isn’t in his eye line because she gives him a lot of strength. Little key indicators are when he plays with his cufflinks or with the cuffs on his shirt and jacket.”
The new Monarch would also put his hand in his jacket when he was young which his sons, particularly Prince William, “picked up” subconsciously.
Mr Stanton explained that Charles’s nose scratch is akin to gestures done by his late mother who would send a signal to her assistants by holding her handbag in a certain hand.
He continued: “Another move Charles tends to make quite a lot is he’ll scratch his nose. Just like with the Queen, she had a signal with her assistants, that if she had her handbag in her left hand and then switched it to her right, that meant ‘get me out of here’ — Charles tends to reach for his nose when he is ready to move on from a conversation.”
Yet the new Monarch has changed over the years, particularly since taking to the throne in September, Mr Stanton explained, hence why these gestures are spotted infrequently.
He said: “However, King Charles has evolved a bit over the years, he has become more confident in himself, especially since becoming King, so we tend to see these gestures less and less.”
