Infamous prisoner Charles Bronson has lost a Parole Board bid to be freed from jail. The 70-year-old had been hoping to be released from HMP Woodhill this week, having spent more than 50 years in prison.

Bronson, who was born Michael Gordon Peterson and who now goes by the name Charles Arthur Salvador, was first jailed in 1974 for armed robbery.

A former bare knuckle boxer, with multiple convictions, he has taken part in nine rooftop protests and has been involved in 11 hostage sieges.
