The two hour tell-all saw the Duke and Duchess of Sussex uncover several deep secrets which sent shockwaves through the Royal Family. While the interview aired on CBS on March 7, Philip, 99, was recovering in hospital from a successful heart surgery.

It is reported that Buckingham Palace worked together to hide the details of the interview in order to ensure Philip was not overwhelmed by the content.

An unnamed royal source told Us Weekly: “He obviously knows about Harry and Meghan’s interview, but the Queen, Charles and William are trying to avoid overwhelming him with their problems so they are keeping their conversations with him about the aftermath light.

“While the Queen has been busy working, she says it’s nice to have her husband back.”

Prince Harry and Meghan received harsh criticism from the public on their decision to air the interview while the Duke was recovering although it was later reported that there was a contingency plan.

A week after the interview aired, Gayle King reported on CBS This Morning that there was a back-up plan in case the Duke took a turn for the worse.

“If something, God forbid, had happened to him, the interview would not have run at this particular time,” said Ms King.

“But the interview was done and was scheduled before he went into the hospital. But a lot of people raised that point.”

Prince Philip was first admitted to the Private King Edward VII’s Hospital on February 16 after feeling “unwell.”

The Duke returned to Windsor Castle on March 16, following his longest ever stint in hospital which lasted for about four weeks.

Following Philip’s release from hospital, Buckingham Palace released a statement thanking all those that helped care for the Duke while in recovery.

“His Royal Highness wishes to thank all the medical staff who looked after him at both King Edward VII’s Hospital and St Bartholomew’s Hospital, and everyone who has sent their good wishes,″ the statement read.

The Duke’s illness is not related to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The Queen and Philip received their first dose of the vaccine in January.
