Princess Charlene of Monaco, 44, is being treated for extreme “emotional and physical” exhaustion. The former Olympic swimmer is currently at a medical facility outside the Principality, where she will likely remain for “several more weeks”. The Prince’s Palace of Monaco provided an update on Charlene’s health last month, saying in a statement that her treatment was expected to continue into late February.
A spokesperson also confirmed that Charlene had received “follow-up dental care” following the sinus lift and bone graft she underwent last year in preparation for dental implants before arriving in South Africa in May 2021.
Charlene contracted an ear, nose and throat infection and collapsed during her six-month stay in her home country.
Upon the Princess’ return to Monaco in November, her husband Prince Albert confirmed to People magazine that she was undergoing medical treatment.
In the interview, Monaco’s Sovereign also discussed his and his wife’s relationship and denied reports their marriage was in trouble.
Amid reports of a rift between the couple, Brittani Barger, a royal commentator and author, speculated on their lack of affection in public.

The deputy editor of Royal Central claimed that the pair did not show the same “chemistry” as the UK’s Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
She told Express.co.uk: “They’ve never been an overly affectionate couple with one another, and Charlene is not one that is always smiling.
“She is not the Duchess of Cambridge — that’s just not her personality.
“Albert and Charlene are not the Cambridges when it comes to their chemistry and everything.” However, personalities differ.
William and Kate are often praised by relationship experts and royal commentators for their intimate interactions during public engagements while still managing to adhere to royal protocols.
During his interview with People magazine, Albert was quick to dismiss any suggestions that Charlene’s health issues were the result of a rift in their relationship.
He said: “I’m probably going to say this several times, but this has nothing to do with our relationship.
“I want to make that very clear. These are not problems within our relationship.
“Not with the relationship between a husband and wife. It’s of a different nature.”
Reports of relationship trouble between Charlene and Albert had emerged after her stay in South Africa was extended.

The Princess arrived in the country she grew up in in May last year for what was supposed to be a maximum ten-day stay.
However, after complications related to her sinus lift and bone graft, she soon required several corrective surgeries.
This meant she had to stay in South Africa for longer than originally planned and was forced to miss her and Albert’s 10th wedding anniversary on July 1.
Ms Barger speculated on the comments made by Prince Albert and suggested that there may be “issues”.
However, this is simply speculation and as mentioned above Princess Charlene has been ill.
She said: “So, I think time is going to tell what is going to take place as the months go forward.
“2022 is going to be very interesting to see what happens for Albert and Charlene and the Princely Family.”
