Chaos as commuters trapped on trains for hours on hottest day of the year

Angry commuters were stuck the ‘unbearable heat’ of a crowded train for hours due to signal failures.

The disruption at Acton Town station in London couldn’t have come at a worse time, with temperatures rising to 33C in the capital today.

One Piccadilly Line passenger tweeted: ‘Please let us out this is a nightmare’ as she begged Transport for London to resolve the ‘unbearable’ standstill.

Passengers questioned how safe it was to be trapped in a confined space for so long with one saying: ‘It’s taking everything in me not to have a claustrophobic panic attack.’

Customers travelling to Hatton Cross, near Heathrow Airport, meant people with suitcases were taking up even more room on the baking trains.

One passenger said there were ‘lots of angry, sweaty people’ when they finally got to Acton Town.

Some people complained that no water was provided when they eventually reached their destination.

A number of ambulances and police vehicles were seen outside the station this afternoon although it isn’t clear exactly why they were there.

Around 7PM this evening Transport for London said trains on the line were up and running again.

They said: ‘We’re now up and running, but we have severe delays to all destinations on the line.

If you can, please seek an alternative route to complete your journey.

We’ll keep you updated with any further change to the service.’
