Carrie Symonds slams 'total crap' that Number 10 dog will be dumped

Carrie Symonds has dismissed suggestions that Number 10’s dog Dilyn could be quietly removed from Downing Street as ‘total crap’.

The prime minister’s pregnant fiancé slammed a story in The Times which suggested the Jack Russell cross might move out when the couple’s first baby is born. Ms Symonds, a vocal supporter of animal rights, branded the claims ‘100% bs’, adding that those responsible for them ‘should be ashamed of themselves’.

Dilyn was adopted as a puppy from a Welsh rescue home in September – but according to The Times – has proved to be ‘quite sickly’ and has pooed ‘everywhere’ in the flat above Downing Street.

The article also quoted a ‘Whitehall source’ predicting that the young dog might not ‘make it through the next reshuffle’.

But in a tweet responding to the claims, Ms Symonds wrote: ‘What a load of total crap!

‘There has never been a happier, healthier and more loved dog than our Dilyn. 100% bs.

‘The people behind this story should be ashamed of themselves.’

Boris Johnson has previously branded Dilyn ‘a most excellent animal’.

A Downing Street source has suggested to Metro.co.uk that claims that Dilyn could be rehomed are untrue.

Dilyn has a number of spoof Twitter accounts, some boasting thousands of followers.

His arrival came long after Larry, the Downing Street cat, took up residence in Number 10.

According to The Times, last month Ms Symonds hired a former ITN communications executive, Sarah Vaughan-Brown, as a personal adviser, and she has been seen walking Dilyn near No 10.

Ms Symonds, who regularly posts pictures of Dilyn on her social media feeds, says he was dumped by puppy farmers because he had a crooked jaw.
