Carole Middleton: Expert recalls 'unfair criticism' in 2010

Kate’s mother is, of course, the grandmother to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, as well as to Pippa’s son Arthur Matthews. There will soon be another grandchild to spoil, as Pippa awaits the birth of her second child. Carole told Good Housekeeping in a recent interview that she likes to get involved with her grandchildren’s games.

She revealed how they “muck around”.

“I want to run down the hills, climb the trees and go through the tunnel at the playground,” she said.

“As long as I am able to, that’s what I’ll be doing.

“I cook with them, I muck around dancing, we go on bike rides.”

Carole has been the driving force within the Middleton family, going on to found a highly successful business called Party Pieces in 1987.

The business made the family’s fortune, enabling Carole to send her children to the very best schools, an opportunity she was denied.

All three Middleton children had the work ethic instilled into them by their parents and worked for the family firm at various times.

Kate and her sister Pippa even modelled various outfits for their mother.

Despite her business commitments, Carole Middleton devoted herself to the upbringing of her children, working hard to ensure they were given the support and love they needed.

She told Good Housekeeping that it was Kate who turned out to be the inspiration for her business.

She explained: “Back in 1987, I was a young mother looking for inspiration for Catherine’s fifth birthday party.

“All I could find was a range of paper plates decorated with clowns.”
