Car plunges 150ft off Kent cliffs killing one man as emergency crews arrive

A man has died after a car plummeted hundreds of feet off a cliff in Kent, police have confirmed.

Kent Police confirmed a “single vehicle collision” took place in Kingsdown, Deal over the weekend on Sunday, May 28 that prompted a large-scale emergency response.

Deal residents were shocked by a significant response at the foot of the town’s 150ft cliffs, with fire service, ambulance, police, air ambulance and coastguard search and rescue teams descending on the area.

Speaking to Kent Live, a spokesman for Kent Police said they were called to the scene at 2.45pm on Sunday.

They added that officers were accompanied by other emergency service personnel as they arrived at Kingsdown Beach.

A man aged in his 50s was confirmed dead at the scene, and the spokesman said his death is not being treated as suspicious.

Local witnesses reported that he died after his car plummeted off the cliff, but emergency services have not confirmed this detail.

A spokesman for Kent’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency said Coastguard Rescue Teams arrived from both Deal and Langdon on May 28.

They responded after the alarm was raised “at about 2.55pm”, alongside other services.

RNLI crews also attended via an inshore lifeboat from Walmer, and Kent’s air ambulance arrived at the scene.

The spokesman added: “The Coastguard search and rescue helicopter was despatched from Lydd, but later stood down and returned to base.”
