Car at centre of horror Luton Airport fire that destroyed 1,200 vehicles named
The car at the centre of a horrific fire that engilfed a multi-storey car park and destroyed 1,200 vehicles has been revealed.
The blaze ripped through Luton Airport’s car park at around 9pm on Tuesday, October 10.
Firefighters battled the flames and plumes of smoke into the night, with four taken to hospital for smoke inhalation.
This morning (Wednesday, October 11), fire crews have revealed the car was diesel powered – despite much speculation that it was an electric vehicle that caused the blaze on social media.
Andrew Hopkinson, chief fire officer for Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, has explained how the fire started.
He said: “We have no intelligence at this stage to suggest that this was anything other than an accidental fire that started in one of the vehicles that had not long arrived at the airport.
