Canary Wharf: Rush hour chaos as Extinction Rebellion glue themselves to DLR train AGAIN

A tweet by the group said: “Rebels have climbed onto a dlr train at #canarywharf holding signs saying ‘business as usual = death’ and ‘don’t jail the canaries’”.

Retired GP Diana Warner, who glued herself to the DLR train, prompting the service to be suspended, told Express.co.uk: “Many people understand the seriousness of climate change and what it will mean to us and our children, and our grandchildren.

“The impact is already being felt in other parts of the world.

“The purpose of these protests is to highlight the severity of the situation, not to disrupt people’s journeys.

“We want to raise awareness.”

The activists staged a series of demonstrations last week throughout the capital, with some of them glueing themselves to trains.

Others congregated in Oxford Circus, where they bolted a pink boat bearing the slogan “Tell the Truth” to the road surface.

Then demonstrators jumped on a train at the central platform in the financial hub.

A DLR spokesman said: “We’re operating with minor delays between Bank and Stratford/Lewisham while we deal with a customer incident at Canary Wharf.

“Please allow extra time to complete your journey.”

One commuter was unconvinced about the demonstration however.

He told Express.co.uk: “I understand the motives behind this and these are educated people but why aren’t they targeting lorries and buses, which use diesel and which cause pollution?

“This is sustainable transport, powered by electricity – what do they want people to do, walk everywhere?”

The protests also drew criticism on social media.

One wrote on Twitter: “I still don’t understand the targeting of public transport – makes no sense.”

Another said: “I assume next there will be protestors locking themselves to wind turbines to protest about gas turbine power stations?”
