Camilla’s fear will prevent her joining Prince Charles on Royal Tour in Japan
The Prince of Wales will arrive in the country on Tuesday to attend the ceremony of enthronement of Emperor Naruhito. But he is taking the trip alone as Camilla has a fear of flying. The 71-year-old admitted her fear when she appeared on ITV’s This Morning last year.
This means she doesn’t always travel on overseas visits with the heir to the throne.
Camilla cut short a visit to Australia in April 2018 due to her fear.
Clarence House said at the time: “The duchess does not like flying but I think she has to sometimes embrace that fear.”
Long-haul flights to Japan can take up to 20 hours.
This can be an uncomfortably long period of time for a person who does not enjoy being in the air.
Given the trip is only two-days long, it is understandable that Camilla may be feeling reluctant.
The duchess also has a number of different royal engagements lined up this week instead.
She will open the new Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases and Brownsword Therapies Centre at the Royal United Hospitals Bath (RUH) on Tuesday.
Camilla became president of the Royal Osteoporosis Society in 2011.
She first became involved in 1997 after her mother and grandmother died as a result of the condition.
After the opening, Camilla will then attend a reception to mark the 20th anniversary of the Forever Friends Appeal.
This is the charity for the RUH.

Later in the week, Camilla will attend a tea reception in London.

Meanwhile, Charles will enjoy a number of lavish banquets when he is in Japan this week.
Clarence House posted on its Instagram page: “The Prince of Wales will visit Japan on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen to attend the Ceremony of Enthronement of His Majesty Emperor Naruhito.
“The visit will take place from 22 to 23 October and will include a day of engagements in Tokyo to celebrate British-Japanese connections.”
The prince has been to Japan four times over the years.
Charles and Camilla did visit Japan together back in 2008.
They spent four days in the country, which coincided with the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Britain and Japan.
Next month, they will also fly to New Zealand between Sunday 17 and Saturday November 21.
Charles will also make a trip to Tuvalu and the Solomon Islands while he is there.
On the tip he will explore the monarchy’s relationship with the Commonwealth realms.
