A royal expert has dismissed claims that Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall may have to have her public image “rehabilitated” after The Crown. Marlene Koenig spoke to Express.co.uk about the future queen consort’s “amazing” work. She also responded to concerns that the hit Netflix series about the Royal Family could have a negative impact on the Duchess’ popularity.

Ms Koenig told Express.co.uk: “Camilla does fantastic work.

“For example, this whole new literacy project.

“The idea that she supports reading, and supports all these other projects around books and literacy, is amazing.

“What she does for the military as well as for osteoporosis, which her mother suffered from, is amazing.”

She continued: “I think she’s extremely down-to-earth.

“When she brings disabled children every year from Helen & Douglas House to Clarence House to help decorate the tree.

“The last time she did it on Zoom, and she asked every child with their parents where they wanted to hang the ornament.

“Then they had the guard do it.”

The expert added: “I watched, balling my eyes out because this is someone who really cares.

Camilla ‘doesn’t get as much credit’ says Marlene Koenig

“So I don’t think she needs any kind of rehabilitation. She just needs to keep on with the work she is doing.”

The relationship between the Prince of Wales and Camilla Parker Bowles played a central role in the last two series of the Netflix hit series.

Upcoming episodes are expected to examine the impact of their romance on the unravelling of Prince Charles’ marriage to Princess Diana in the 1990s.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams offered a different outlook, warning that the Duchess and Prince Charles will likely take an even bigger hit in future seasons of The Crown.

He told Express.co.uk: “There’s a Season 5 and Season 6 of The Crown, which means 20 more episodes. I think that they’re going to take quite a hit over it.

“The portrayal of Charles as a gormless imbecile who regards the rest of the royals as a politburo and is utterly selfish, self-indulgent, and thoroughly nasty is simply horrible.

“There’s no question about that.”

Mr Fitzwilliams added: “The trouble is a huge audience sees it, and don’t necessarily know that much of it is fiction. They won’t put a disclaimer, which they should.

“I think The Crown is terribly damaging to Charles and Camilla. It’s a drip-feed of negativity and this will go on.”
