In 2022, Queen Elizabeth II, 95, will celebrate her Platinum Jubilee which sees her mark 70 years as the head of state. Her Majesty will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee.

The monarch’s jubilee celebrations will be ongoing throughout 2022 and will mark her time as the longest-reigning monarch in British history.

These celebrations will see members of the Royal Family travel around the country and overseas to mark the significant milestone.

An extended bank holiday running from June 2 to June 5, has been allocated to provide an opportunity for the British public to enjoy “public events and community activities” as part of the celebrations.

The Duchess of Cornwall will play a leading part in marking the Queen’s Jubilee next year, signalling her rising role within the Royal Family.

Camilla, 74, will preside over the “Big Lunch”, Britain’s Jubilee street party.

The “Big Lunch” will form part of the long bank holiday weekend of celebrations and events planned for June.

It will see thousands of families and friends gathering together to celebrate the Queen’s 70-year rule.

A Palace source said: “This is part of a range of events taking place but it means Camilla will have a central role in leading the nation in the celebrations in a sign of her growing responsibilities.”

In recent weeks, she and her husband Prince Charles, 73, have been undertaking more duties traditionally associated with the head of state after Her Majesty’s recent health issues.

This weekend, Camilla gave an interview to ITV Racing while attending Ascot, which is particularly notable, as she is championing the monarch’s favourite sport.

The Duchess of Cornwall is the patron of the Ebony Horse Club which teaches inner-city children to horse ride in Brixton.

At Ascot, she invited young jockeys from the group for a VIP tour of the racecourse.

Following the raise in her public image, Camilla has also been spotted wearing a Fitbit exercise watch to keep in shape and reportedly has a new hairdresser.

Prior to her visit to Ascot, she and Charles completed a four-day royal tour of Jordan and Egypt.

Between the pair, they took part in more than 30 engagements, including solo engagements for the Duchess in some of the more deprived areas of Amman and Cairo.

Speaking of the engagements, a Palace source told Mail on Sunday: “The Duchess is increasingly comfortable in the role and confident doing the job.

“She knows very well what it involves.”

To commemorate her historic reign, Her Majesty the Queen will also award Platinum Jubilee medals to some members of the Royal Family.

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the monarch will award the medals to a number of her relatives including those who no longer or have never undertaken official engagements on her behalf.

A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said: “A wide number of members of the Royal Family will receive the Platinum Jubilee medal in line with the previous two jubilees.”

Among those expected to receive the award are Prince Andrew, who withdrew from official royal duties in 2019, and his daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.
