Camilla resumes Christmas tradition at Clarence House by opening up home
Queen Camilla has resumed one very special Christmas tradition by welcoming children to decorate the tree at Clarence House. The Queen has opened up the royal residence to children and families supported by Helen & Douglas House and Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.
As well as the honour of decorating the Clarence House Christmas tree, the children and their families were all treated to a few festive surprises.
The Queen, who was then-the Duchess of Cornwall, became Patron for Helen & Douglas House in 2007.
Celebrating their 41st anniversary this year, Helen & Douglas House credits itself as the world’s first children’s hospice.

This year’s honour marks the 17th time that children supported by the charity – as well as hospice staff – have been welcomed to decorate the Clarence House Christmas tree.
Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity provides specialist nurses and support for seriously ill children with some of the most complex health conditions in the UK.
Just like Helen & Douglas House, the Queen has been Patron for Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity since 2017.
During their visit, the children also watched a performance by the Band and Bugles of The Rifles and will receive a special surprise visit from Father Christmas and his reindeer.

Speaking at last year’s event, Queen Camilla said: “It’s always a treat for me to start the Christmas season here. It literally kicks it off for us.”
At last year’s event, two reindeer, Dancer and Blitzen – brought from Lapland into London via Stroud, Gloucestershire – were outside waiting for the children after they had finished.
Happily helping to feed the reindeer, Camilla said: “They are very sweet and will clearly be very busy soon.”
The reindeer also joined this year’s event, surprising the children in attendance.
